Honda Gold Wing Handlebars & Grips Buying & Fitment Guide
Changing handlebars or grips affects more than appearance. Bar diameter, control area, throttle-tube fit, cable and hose routing, switch wiring, bar-end hardware and clearance through full steering movement all matter.
What This Collection Covers
This collection includes model-specific grips and handlebars where available, universal grip sets, throttle-side grips and sleeves, bar-end caps and weights, clamps, custom handlebars, clip-ons and selected hand guards or control accessories.
Many products are universal/custom. A Gold Wing model name in a custom product title does not by itself mean the part duplicates the original handlebar or grip.
Check Handlebar & Grip Fitment Before Ordering
Handlebar diameter: Verify the control-area diameter, commonly 7/8 inch or 1 inch, and confirm the clamp area and any stepped sections.
Grip fit: The throttle-side grip normally has a larger inside diameter to fit the throttle tube. Check open or closed ends, length and bar-end hardware.
Bar dimensions: Compare total width, rise, pullback, center width, control length and knurl or clamp location.
Cables, hoses and wiring: Turn the bars through full travel and confirm throttle, choke, clutch, brake hose and switch-wire length and routing.
Motorcycle clearance: Check tank, fairing, windshield, instrument, mirror and rider clearance before drilling or permanently installing controls.
After installation, verify that the throttle returns freely, hydraulic hoses are not stretched or kinked, cables do not bind and no control changes operation at full left or right steering lock.
Common Handlebar & Grip Questions
Are Gold Wing handlebars 7/8 inch or 1 inch?
Do not assume by model name alone. Measure the control and clamp areas of the original bar and compare them with the product specifications.
Why is the throttle-side grip larger inside?
It fits over the throttle tube rather than directly over the bare handlebar. A pair normally contains different left and right inside diameters.
Will taller or wider handlebars require different cables and hoses?
They can. Changes in width, rise or pullback may require different throttle, choke or clutch cables, brake hoses and switch wiring or rerouting.
What is the difference between open-end and closed-end grips?
Open-end grips allow bar-end weights, mirrors or caps to pass through. Closed-end grips cover the bar end and may need modification for those accessories.
Are universal handlebars direct replacements?
No. Diameter is only one factor. Clamp spacing, width, rise, pullback, control area, drilled holes, cable routing and fairing or tank clearance must all work.
Can I reuse the original bar-end weights or caps?
Only if the new bar and grip design accept the same internal mounting and outside diameter. Verify the attachment method and clearance before installation.
