Honda Gold Wing Hardware & Fasteners Buying & Fitment Guide
Fasteners are defined by more than thread diameter. Pitch, length, head shape, shoulder, strength, finish, washer arrangement and exact location can determine whether a bolt, screw, nut or spacer is safe and correct.
What This Collection Covers
This collection includes model-specific bolt and screw kits, individual metric fasteners, nuts, washers, spacers, collars, cotter pins, fairing and body hardware, exhaust clamps and related installation tools. Some kits replace visible cover fasteners; others serve one specific mechanical assembly.
Universal hardware can be useful, but it should not replace a shouldered, hardened, sealed or otherwise specialized original fastener without matching every required specification.
Check Hardware Fitment Before Ordering
Thread diameter and pitch: Confirm both values, such as M6 × 1.0. A fastener can start in the hole and still have the wrong pitch.
Length and head style: Measure length using the correct convention for the head type and compare flange, socket, pan, countersunk or other head form.
Shoulder, spacer and washer arrangement: Match any unthreaded shoulder, collar, sealing washer, lock washer, rubber mount or special spacer.
Strength, material and finish: Use a fastener suitable for the mechanical load, heat, corrosion exposure and service-manual requirement.
Location and quantity: Confirm the exact cover, bracket, engine, brake, suspension or body location and how many pieces the kit supplies.
Do not substitute ordinary decorative hardware in brakes, steering, suspension or other safety-critical locations. Use the specified torque and locking method for the exact application.
Common Hardware & Fastener Questions
What does M6 × 1.0 mean?
M6 is the nominal thread diameter in millimetres and 1.0 is the thread pitch in millimetres. Length and head style are separate specifications.
How is bolt length measured?
Most hex, flange and socket-head bolts are measured from under the head to the tip. Countersunk screws are usually measured overall. Confirm the product drawing or listing.
Are JIS screws the same as Phillips screws?
No. Many Japanese motorcycles use JIS-style cross-head screws. The correct driver engages the recess better and reduces the chance of cam-out and damaged heads.
Does a model-specific bolt kit include every fastener on the motorcycle?
No. A kit normally covers the assembly named in the listing, such as one engine cover, carburetor bank or body section. Review the contents and quantity.
Can stainless hardware replace every original bolt?
No. Material, strength, heat exposure, thread engagement, shoulder design and corrosion interaction matter. Match the application rather than choosing by appearance.
Why does a bolt shoulder or collar matter?
It can locate a part, support a bearing surface, limit clamping, preserve movement or protect rubber components. A fully threaded bolt may not perform the same function.
